Being a NICU Mom can never be compared to any other traumatic experience.
A NICU Mom
feels happy for giving birth,
feels sad for it being a premature delivery,
feels terrible to see her little one suffer,
feels distressed unable to cope with the happenings,
feels the fear how and when will her baby recover and
feels lonely not able to bond with her tiny little warrior.
I have been a NICU Mom myself and have gone through those unforgettable and fearful days. I thought of penning down a poem ( or whatever it may look like 🙂 ) on reflecting the feelings of a Mom who is watching her baby fighting at the NICU.
So, here are the longings of a NICU Mom!!
The Longings of a NICU Mom
I was longing to carry a big tummy,
I was longing to get sick and weary,
I was longing to feel the little kicks,
I was longing to see my swollen legs,
My wishes reached God with a delay!
And You were budding in my womb everyday!!
I was longing to tear up in pain,
I was longing to brace you with my love chain,
I was longing to see your charming face,
I was longing to look at your divine smile,
This time God had a trick!
And You were born two months quick!!
Today,
I am longing to hear you cry ,
I am longing to hold you tight,
I am longing to see you smile in sleep,
I am longing to sense your hunger and feed,
I am longing to have sleepless nights,
I am simply longing to stay near you all the times,
My requests are in queue!
And God is yet to review!!

This is such a heartful and heartwarming poem. I don’t know what it feels like to have a little one in the NICU but could never imagine the feeling.
Thank you! It is indeed heart breaking to have a tiny baby in the NICU and I had them both (twins).
I cannot imagine how hard this must be. You are SO strong to walk through this!
Thank u! It was certainly a tough path. Glad I have crossed it!
beautiful poem! I was a NICU mom with my first, and I’ll never forget the fight that both my son and I put up. NICU babies and mommas are some of the strongest people
True Justine!! NICU period needs a lot of strength!!
I really feel you. This poem is really touching.I experienced the same or similar experience with my son.The worst experience was to look at the newborn baby with lot of tubes and gadgets…..
Exactly Amila! That moment will pierce your heart!!
Beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. One of my friends had twins in the NICU for awhile, and she gently reminds people who complain about some of those things you long for that they should be grateful.
Thank you! The moment you are out of the NICU with your babies hale and healthy, you will be so grateful that you will never complain about anything else. True!
Such a heartfelt post. I have a baby in the NICU, though not because she was premature. It is a uniquely difficult experience, and definitely wonderful when she was finally able to come home <3
Yeah! Once they are home we will forget all the pain though!😊
Aww so sweet. I’ve never been in this position but I can imagine the struggles. God is good to give us hope.
True! Miracles happen in NICU!
Wow this is so real and raw – we were fortunate enough not to have this experience but I know sooo many mamas who are NICU mamas and could relate Xoxo.
